Crisis Intervention
The purpose of the crisis intervention professional is to aid the client in de-escalating her crisis. This is done in a manner that respects the client’s goals, beliefs and stated needs. The Crisis Intervention Worker empowers the client to help herself. This is done in a variety of ways. When the services needed lay outside of the shelter’s mandate, the worker makes the appropriate referrals.
Family Violence Education
The Crisis Intervention Worker holds group daily for all in-house clients. Topics such as definitions of abuse, cycle of violence, identifying abusive behaviors, and healthy/unhealthy relationships are addressed. Women have the opportunity to share their own stories or feelings, or sit quietly. Handouts are available to the women on an extensive array of topics regarding relationships, abuse, parenting and other related issues. The women are able to attend these group sessions without their children present, as the Child Care worker holds separate sessions for the children at the same time.
Crisis Counseling Crisis Intervention Workers are available for one-to-one counseling 24 hours per day. This is provided for in-house clients, ant it is available to women as a walk-in service, provided they call in advance.
Safety Planning and Assessments
In-house clients are guided through a variety of tools that enable the women to make informed, safe choices for herself and her children. She will have opportunity to do an abuse assessment, danger assessment, and create a personalized safety plan.
The Crisis Intervention Worker guides the women through the process of creating her own case plan, where she assesses and prioritizes her needs, then sets reachable short-term goals to achieve while in-house. This is reviewed weekly, to help keep the women on track and to assist and redefine goals as circumstances change.
